Notes about BetaGroup #9 conference

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Yesterday I went with Chris to the 9th BetaGroup conference at ULB, where Belgian startups are allowed to present their projects. Here is a summary of the 5  presentations we saw :

MonAssoc : http://monassoc.com/
Monassoc offers to create ready-to-use webpages dedicated to your association, club, group, giving your members a place to discuss, share, and get information. It’s kinda like a Facebook group or page, only with more options. You have a forum, a blog and a calendar to manage your events. It also has the “more serious” touch, missing in Facebook. No need to be an internet genius to get your association website, 3 steps, and you’re done ! After that, you can manage tabs, pages, photo albums, events. No backend CMS, everything is editable in-line.

Some notes from the BetaGroup #8 conference

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Tonight I went with three of my colleagues to this quarter’s BetaGroup conference, which has put forward some very nice web application ideas. Here’s what I highlighted :

Extrafoot – Public Beta on www.extrafoot.be or www.extravoetbal.be
Social football website which is based mainly on the publication of fresh news from the Belgian football scene (with 3 full time journalists currently gathering information in Belgium) and social commenting from the users. With 3.000 to 10.000 daily visits and 3000+ members, it is becoming a strong belgian football community.
The nice approach resides in the fact that the user wins credits each time a comment is posted. These credits can be spent on gifts (city trips, gifts from clubs and players, …). I look forward to see how the introducing of social commenting rewards will boost commenting without being drowned in SPAM.
